BOWLING
There is a fun, modern bowling alley inside the Sports Centre – (dolmus picks up and drops off there). 5TL for the first game, 4TL for second game. ‘Bowling Day’ in winter from YM is Wednesdays - see EVENTS page.
CHANDLERS
There are numerous chandlers in marmaris. If you get off of the dolmus at the Sports Centre (just after Netsel) there are 2 roads with various chandlers and specialist boating shops and workshops. If you then walk over the bridge there are a few more – it is best to wander around and compare prices. If you are looking for something in particular that you are having trouble finding, ask around or on the morning Net.
CINEMA
There is a cinema in marmaris – it shows mostly english speaking films with turkish subtitles. Just check at the desk before paying for your ticket.
It is about a 25minute walk from the Ataturk Statue, to the right along the beach front, inside the Point Center on the left-hand side of the road. (Or get the Dolmus to Migros and jump off early). I am looking into websites – anyone know?
COMPUTER-TYPE REPAIRS and SALES
We know of 2 places in Marmaris that can repair laptops, PC's, Hard drives etc - "Destek" and "Casper". Casper is a big company with a workshop and a shop in town. Destek is smaller and also generally cheaper than Casper - Destek guys are very friendly and they guarantee their repairs for a certain period - we are not sure about Casper (please let us now if you have any experience of this).
- DESTEK - When you get off of the Dolmus in town, walk back and turn left - the way the Dolmus came (alongside the stream which is on your right). Turn left into the first alley you come to on the left (between 'Aktas Electric' and a Fabric Shop) - go to the back of that alley and turn left again into a business block. "Destek" is on the third floor - follow the signs on the walls. YM servers are sent here for repair.
- CASPER - On the dolmus coming into town - just before you get to the bridge where the school is on the right. If you get off there, and walk down some steps you will see Casper - follow the signs. (If you are going into Marmaris Casper is on the left-hand side of the road).
As with everything, get an idea of prices and guarantees before they start taking things to pieces.
CRAFT MATERIALS - such as Wool, Cottons, Embroidery Threads, Needles etc. can be found in the 3 shops in the road behind Tansas. If you start at Tansas and walk to the side, towards the market, past the bus shops – The road that goes to the left (Alins restaurant is on the corner) is the road with the wool shops. There are also various shops that sell Beads and Crystals etc. but they seem to change location every year - ask around.
DOLMUS ADVICE
If the dolmus arrives outside Tansas (to come back to YM) and it is standing room only, ask the driver firmly, but politely, to get a second dolmus.
The problem with standing is that by the time the dolmus has been past the School, the Sports Centre and Netsel, it is chocka-block. They are not supposed to have anyone standing and if the police stop them, they will get into trouble.
Many people do this and it does work – especially on market day.
If it is full from the YM end, tell security to call for another bus (it will prove a point!).
If this happens to you and they do not get a bus, please tell the office. It may be that they need to provide dolmus' more frequently.
EATING OUT
There are loads of great places to eat in Marmaris – some on the front may rip you off on the bill if they think you are a bit tipsy – so beware.
Below is a restaurant that is popular with Yotties because it has a special turkish dish and they are very friendly -
NEIGHBOURS – They serve a great TRADITIONAL Turkish dish called a “KAVURMA”. It is chicken or meat (in turkish spices/herbs), potatoes, salad, rice etc all served in a wok style dish over a burner (approx 13TL). You can also choose from the nice selection of traditional starters at the food bar at the back.
(Yum – we had this served on board the gullet for our main wedding meal.) They are very friendly there and it is open and busy with locals all year round.
If you cross the bridge from Netsel it is on the waterfront about the fifth(?) one along.

SHOPPING INFO
Lots of people who have been here a while have information on various places to get things – ask around… coffee morning or on the Net-channel 69.
SUPERMARKETS
The main supermarket is ‘Tansas’ (the dolmus stops and picks up from there).
There is also a large ‘Migros’ supermarket on the way to Icmeler – there is a dolmus that goes there from right outside Tansas – just look for ‘Migros’ written on the windscreen.
There is also a large supermarket called 'KIPA' on the Datca road, it seems to sell a lot of 'tesco'brand products. Our favourite supermarket - the fruit and veg is loose and the prices seem cheaper! Again there is a bus with'kipa' on it that leaves outside Tansas.
There is a small (sometimes cheaper) supermarket called ‘BIM’ on the main road on the way to the market.
There is a small supermarket (green and yellow front !) on the back road that cuts through from the top of the indoor bazaar through to the road where our dolmus stops.
There is a small MIGROS near the bridge at Netsel marina.
HAIRDRESSING AND BEAUTY
Ask your neighbours who they use . or...
ANNETTE's. She has cut my hair many times and charges either 15 or 20TL. It is a modern professional salon, Annette has had her own hairdressing business for 20 years, she is swedish, so speaks perfect english. She has a couple of people who are really good at colouring hair too. There is also a beauty salon with numerous services. The address is Kemeralti Mah, 103. Sok. No:14. Marmaris - telephone 0252 413 24 86.
If you turn right at the Royal Maris Hotel (on the seafront, 5mins from Attaturk Statue), walk to the end of the road and turn left, it is 3mins walk on your left. You can call them - they speak good english (and swedish!). Many friends have also been there too.
MARKETS
MARMARIS - There is a large market every Thursday in Marmaris. It sells loads of fresh fruit and veg (very cheap) and during the summer (limited in the winter) there is the usual toursity type stuff such as clothes, toys, handbags, t-shirts, jeans, wallets, games etc.
To get there – face Tansas – to the right is a road, go down there for 5mins or so and the market is in the back over on the right somewhere – Follow the locals with bags and trolleys!
BELDIBI - This is on Sundays - a locals market. Get the Dolmus to Beldibi (same place as YM dolmus) and ask for the market.
ICHMELER - Not absolutely sure what day this is - can anyone tell us?
MUGLA = This is on Thursdays - a big local market. see below for 'how to get to Mugla'.
NEWSPAPERS – English Speaking
There is a daily newspaper called the “TURKISH DAILY NEWS” – this has both turkish and international news and current affairs. There is also a website for this.
English and German newspapers are sold in town at the booth next to Tansas and also in the YM Supermarket - although they may stop in the depths of winter!
PHOTOCOPYING CHARTS/PILOT BOOKS ETC.
There is a small stationery shop near to the PTT. Ask us or ask one of your neighbours. They copy practically anything for a good price.
SANAYI (pronounced san-i-ee?)
This is the small industrial area at the back of marmaris where there are loads of little workshops dealing with practically eveything you could need - if they haven't got it, they will order it or make it for you. Amazing place.
To get there - looking at Tansas follow the main road to the right, keep walking maybe 10minutes until you get to a roundabout with a petrol station on your right. Opposite is HSBC bank. Follow the dual carriageway to the right, go 200meters and turn left. you are now entering the sanayi area. Stainless steel work, canvas work, all kinds of belts, alternators, engine parts, metal workshops, filters etc. - it's all there.
GAS ALLEY - If you turned right at that roundabout, you would enter what is known as 'Gas Alley' - most types of gas bottles can be filled or bought there as well as hardware, paint, plumbing parts etc.
WIFI
If your marina network is down, there is free wifi upstairs at McDonalds and also in Burger King. Take a full battery though!
HOW TO GET TO MUGLA
Thursday is market day there.
As you look at TANSAS in Marmaris, to the right, around the corner there are some Bus/Travel shops. Go to one that says 'Mugla' and they will give you times and prices.
(it takes approx 1hr10mins and costs about 6TL each way)
They will have a small bus that will take you to the main 'Otogar'(bus station) in Marmaris where you will board a bigger bus to take you to Mugla.
Once there, the bus stops at a large roundabout. Get off there and walk about 5-10mins into the centre of town. In winter there may be the occasional organised buses from YM.
