Marmaris Yacht Marina

It was suggested (you know who you are) that it would be a good idea to compile a list of information that people might find useful about what goes on in Marmaris Yacht Marina, especially for the new arrivals.
So for the third winter running, here it is……….

ATM
There is a cash point machine next to the main gate in the Marina.   It gives Turkish Lira only.   There is also a HSBC cashpoint booth next to the entrance to the Bar - This gives Turkish Lira and Euros.   (Also for USD and Euros, try the bigger bank ATM's in town eg.Deniz Bank)

BAR
– Happy hour is normally 6.30pm to 8.00pm - Although when the clocks have gone back in the autumn it eventually changes to 6pm to 7.30pm.
They serve 'bar snack's' until 6pm in the restaurant area and also do nice breakfasts.

CANTEEN
– Generally for the marina workers, but yotties go there too.   It’s great if you are too busy to cook something.   Lunch and evening meals are served there.   The menu differs every day and is normally posted on the noticeboard outside the office.   Cost is 7TL per meal.   Pay the man in the corner and grab a tray!   Sometimes excellent, sometimes strange!

CHANDLERY
– A well stocked chandlery is in between the Office and the Supermarket.

CHILDRENS ROOM
- This is located near Echo pontoon.   There is also a small playground with swings etc. next to it.

CLOTHING
-   If you have any clothing that you do not want anymore, take it into the office in a plastic bag.   They will ensure that it goes to a local charity.

CONTACTS
- Office Number is +90 252 422 00 94

DIESEL
-   There is a list at the reception where you put your boat name and how many litres you require.   When demand is high enough a tanker will be requested and you can go and fill diesel cans.   Reception or the office should know about this.

DOLMUSES
– They pick up outside the marina gate and go into Marmaris.   Times vary greatly depending on what time of the year it is.   Click near top of this page for the latest timetable or ask in Reception.
Times also can be on the dolmus stop outside the marina as well as the notice board outside reception.
If it is full and standing room only - ask the driver to send for a second bus.   The Police sometimes stop Dolmuses if they are too full - it is illegal.
You cannot take big luggage on the dolmus - they want you to get a taxi instead.

FERRY
- The marina runs a ferry into town and back twice a day.
* Summer 2009
Leaves Marina       8.40am and 17.00
Leaves Marmaris   9.05am and 16.50 approx!
* Winter (from 25th October 2009)
Leaves Marina       8.45am and 16.30
Leaves Marmaris   9.05am and 16.50   approx!
(It's a good idea to be there 5mins early)

GAS BOTTLES
– Ask in the Supermarket, they can either send them to be filled for you or do a swap there and then.   There are also many shops in Marmaris that will fill them, but the Dolmus drivers don't really like you openly carrying them on the Dolmus-Use a rucksack maybe?

GYM
- There is a Gym in between the marina gate and the restaurant garden.   If it is locked, get the key from the security gate and return it when you have finished.

HAIRCUTS
– The marina offers a facility where both men and women can get their hair ‘done’.   This is opposite the entrance to the office.   They do shaves etc too.   Also see 'Marmaris Info' page.

HAULING OUT
Exact times are a problem!   You need a piece of paper from the office to give to the driver.

INFORMATION
– Various items of helpful information from other yotties is in the ‘yellow pages’ folder/binder in the reception - things such as sailmakers, electricians, riggers, dentists, car hire etc.   Information good and bad about tradespeople, companies etc.

INTERNET
-   As well as wifi, there are 2 computers in reception that can be used for internet access or printing etc. for a charge.   Wifi signal is normally good upstairs in the Library - and there are also LAN cables there.
If you are persistently having problems with connection or signal, you must go and see the computer guy in the office (Utku).   He is very happy for you to do this.   Quite often he is totally unaware that some pontoons may have a problem and this can go on for days without anyone telling him.   He can sort this out most of the time with a little 'tweaking' or advise you on better aerials etc.

LAUNDRY
– this is in the large shower block to the left as you look at the main gate.   You can give your washing to the ladies, they will give you a small ticket.   Take this to the reception and pay there, she will initial your ticket and you can then collect your washing-dried and folded.   prices vary depending on items/weight.   (Sometimes this works out to a similar price to self-service.)
OR – there are a couple of self-service machines – you can get tokens from reception.   (7tl) There are washers and dryers.
It is normally open between 8.30am and 18.30, but not on Sundays.   Times may be different in the winter (late Oct+) 8am and 18.00.

LIBRARY
-   On the floor above the Bar, there is a library seating area with many, many books and magazines in various languages.   A great opportunity to swap books and magazines.   There are also 2 pool tables (one is turkish)up there - get the balls from the Bar, approx 4TL per hour, but check the price.

MARKET DAY
-   in Marmaris is a Thursday. Also Mugla Market is on a Thursday.   Beldibi Market is on Sundays.   (see Marmaris page for all details of these).

MEDICAL
– there is a medical room with a nurse, just outside the office.   She is there during the day, every day except Sundays.   Also, as well as there being a Nurse on site to visit, there is also a Doctor that can visit YM, so if you would like to see him, tell the Nurse.   Apparently, he is never more than 15minutes away.
There is also an ambulance based in the marina in case of emergency.

MISCELLANEOUS
Avon - The tea lady in the office does this - just ask if you can look at her catalogues.

MOSQUITOES
– the marina sprays a diesel type smoke most days when mozzies are around – Generally it is between 4pm and 6pm, depending on the winds.   It seems to work very well.

NET
–   There is a morning net at 9am on channel 69 every day except Sunday.   It is very useful for the exchange of information among yotties and boatowners in Marmaris Bay.   It runs all winter, and during most of the summer if the demand is there.   They are always looking for volunteers as ‘net controllers’, so please volunteer to help if you can.   Topics include:- Weather / Hi’s and Goodbyes / Parts, Services or Advice needed / Treasures of the Bilge (to sell or give away) / Social Events etc.

OFFICE
-   This is open now (late october) from 8am to 6pm.   On Sundays 8.30 to 17.30.   Times differ during the summer.

RADIO STATION
- The marina has it’s own FM stereo radio station.   99FM.   With a mix of music from many nations.

RESTAURANT
-   Excellent food in a lovely setting.   Tip - buy your bottles of wine in the Bar before happy hour finishes. Everyone does it.   Special menu nights run in the winter - see 'Events' page.

SAUNA
This is normally open in the winter depending on demand - ask at reception for winter days/times.   (update for Oct 2009 - open Mondays and Fridays 10am-6pm)

SOCIAL EVENTS
–   usually at the start and end of the sailing season there are many events organised for the yotties such as:-   Boat Jumbles, B-B-Q’s, various Parties in the restaurant etc.
Also during the winter there can be many things going on:-   Quiz Nights, Coffee Mornings, Skipper's Meetings, Kids Clubs, Party Nights, Walking Clubs, Computer Clubs etc.   See our 'EVENTS' page.

Also Gwen from “KW” boat based in Netsel Marina organises lots of sightseeing trips to numerous places including Cappodocia, Ephesus, Pammukale etc.
The best way to find out about these events is to listen to the morning NET on channel 69 at 9am or look at the 'Events' page.

SHOWERS
– there are various shower blocks around the marina – ask your neighbours where your nearest ones are!   If you have any problems with them, pop into the Office and tell them.

SKYPE
– many people use Skype now to communicate with others using their computers.   When you switch your computer on –   skype is automatically “live”.   If everyone has this on, it can slow down the wifi signal.   It's a good idea to turn it off when it is not being used.   To do this, open Skype and click in the bottom left-hand corner to switch it to “offline”.   Switch it to online again when you want to use it.

STAFF
– The staff in the marina are generally great, and mostly taken for granted.   Give them a smile and a 'Thank You' every now and again maybe.

SUPERMARKET
-   The marina has quite a large supermarket selling the usual provisions as well as fruit, veg and fresh daily bread.   Opening hours are 8am to 22.00 in the summer.   It closes earlier in the winter, usually 9pm.   They can also deliver to your boat.   They have huge drinking water containers that work out to be very cheap - ask.

SWIMMING POOL
– There is a jacuzzi and a lovely pool with sun loungers etc. next to the restaurant.   Be careful though – most people cannot touch the bottom when standing up.

TAXI-shares
- There is a list/diary in the reception where people can put down dates and times for sharing taxi’s to the airports. This is also sometimes mentioned on the   morning Net on channel 69 if the taxi trip is 48hours or less away.

TELEPHONES and FAX
There are public payphones next to the main gate and also near the canteen.   Cards with credit on them can be bought in the marina shop or in town at newsagents.   The Office can send a fax for you, but it can be very expensive, especially when faxing overseas.

VHF
– Boats within Marmaris Bay use channel 69 to communicate with each other.   You should call the other boat on channel 69 and then both switch to another channel to have your conversation.   Channels 68,71,77,08,67 are commonly used.
Most boats have Channel 69 on permanently and will hear every word you say if you do not switch channels.   Do not use channels 72 or 06 as they are the working channels for the two main marmaris marinas.

WIFI
-   The Marina has a great wi-fi computer system.   Most computers will lock into this automatically when you do a search.   If you have a problem there is a ‘marina computer man’ in the main office who should be able to help you.   If you are having a period where the signal on your boat is weak, the signal in the reception and library are nearly always very strong.

YACHT SERVICES
– As you will see there are places around the marina that offer various yacht services to both big and small boats.   To find something in particular you are better off asking a neighbour for any recommendations or asking over the morning Net at 9am.   You could also check the ‘yellow pages’ in reception.   There is also a Sanyai (?) in Marmaris – see ‘Marmaris Information’ section of this website.
Hope this is helpful !
